Psalms are here!

We know the Book of Psalms as the song book of God's people. Throughout time, Psalms has also been the PRAYER book of God's people. Believers have sung, chanted, read, and, yes, prayed the Psalms. And believers throughout the world to this day continue singing and praying the Psalms! Today begins 60 days through of the Psalms. As you read the Psalms with others at SWBC, pray for what God is showing you in each verse.

SWBC Shared Purpose

Pray that our church will worship and serve Jesus with joy.

Father,
Help our church to see the many reasons you have given us to rejoice.
May your Holy Spirit fill our hearts with awe at your glory and with praise to Jesus as we serve His Bride and celebrate the good news that we are loved by you and adopted as your children.
Help us to serve and celebrate you as a church family in ways that strengthen one another through our shared rejoicing.
May this church family worship you Lord
within every aspect of our lives;
not just our voices,
but also our time, talents, and treasures.
Amen.
1 Peter 1:8: Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory.
Romans 12:1: I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

Praying Scripture

Psalm 2:4-6:
4 He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
Lord, You are seated in Heaven. The best of human devices is so far below you that it is laughable. I praise Your for your majesty. You are so much greater and higher than even the biggest human accomplishments.
5 Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,
God, I trust that even when things seem terrible, You care. You will not let evil go unpunished. You can and will make all things right. Vengence is Yours, Lord.
6 “As for me, I have set my King
on Zion, my holy hill.”
Lord, I praise you seated on the throne. You are the one in charge I rest in your control.
This is how Jesus answered the disciples when they said, ‘Lord, teach us to pray.’ Read it. Pray it. Meditate on each line. Read it again. Pray it again.

Psalm 1 (Listen)

Book One

The Way of the Righteous and the Wicked

1:1   Blessed is the man1
    who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
  nor stands in the way of sinners,
    nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
  but his delight is in the law2 of the LORD,
    and on his law he meditates day and night.
  He is like a tree
    planted by streams of water
  that yields its fruit in its season,
    and its leaf does not wither.
  In all that he does, he prospers.
  The wicked are not so,
    but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
  Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
    nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
  for the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
    but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalm 2 (Listen)

The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed

2:1   Why do the nations rage1
    and the peoples plot in vain?
  The kings of the earth set themselves,
    and the rulers take counsel together,
    against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying,
  “Let us burst their bonds apart
    and cast away their cords from us.”
  He who sits in the heavens laughs;
    the Lord holds them in derision.
  Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
    and terrify them in his fury, saying,
  “As for me, I have set my King
    on Zion, my holy hill.”
  I will tell of the decree:
  The LORD said to me, “You are my Son;
    today I have begotten you.
  Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
    and the ends of the earth your possession.
  You shall break2 them with a rod of iron
    and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
10   Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
    be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11   Serve the LORD with fear,
    and rejoice with trembling.
12   Kiss the Son,
    lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
    for his wrath is quickly kindled.
  Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
